Abortion and India
Today, I was driving home from a meeting when I turned on the radio and heard the BBC news. The BBC was covering abortion in India. The news report was using words that I was shocked to hear: infanticide, murder, baby, etc. The BBC was dropping all of the Pro-abortion language normally used: fetus, choice, woman's right, privacy, woman's body, etc. How could this be?
You see the broadcast was about the fact
that Indian woman are aborting their female unborn children. As a matter of fact 10 million female babies have been aborted during the past 20 years. The news report was specifically about an Indian government sting operation where woman who were pregnant with baby girls were sent in to see if doctors would facilitate an abortion based on the baby’s gender. In the first sentence of its kind, a doctor and his assistant will receive two years in prison. 
The report throroughly went through the problem. How the victimized woman are being pressured by their family to have the abortion against their will. How predatory doctors push woman to abort and are only interested in money. According to the news report, the only way to deal with this gruesome practice is to imprison doctors and other abortion providers. This news report was very hypocritical coming from a pro-abortion publications like the BBC. If abortion is OK and the fetus is not a human but simply a piece of tissue, what is this the fuss? According to their normal logic, this is simply one woman's decision on how she wants to use her own body. Why is the government inserting itself into the doctor and patient relationship? How about their right to privacy? Isn't the result of laws like those in India going to result in sending these poor woman to back alley abortion clinics? Isn't providing abortions to the poor one of the noblest ambitions? How about if the woman would be psychologically affected by having a girl? The report shows that the normal dependable Western proabortionist can set aside their principles on abortion when they are more interested alternate issues like gender equality in this case. Suddenly it is not a piece of flesh but an actual girl baby who not getting the chance to live. It is too bad that the BBC can only see abortion as wrong in this one single context. The fail to understand that an abortion ends an emerging precious life.
