The Danes, French & Germans vs Islam

I just wanted to weigh in on the current dispute between the Muslim world and the Western press. For those of you who may have missed it, a Danish publication, Jyllands-Posten, published a picture of Mohammad as a terrorist with a stick of dynamite coming out of his turban. In recent days, Danish products have been boycotted and European Union offices in the Middle-East broken into by angry Muslims. In a sign of support for freedom of the press other news publications in France, Spain and Germany, have republished the offensive pictures.

I am a Christian and not a follower of Mohammad, but I fail to see why these newspapers have gone out of their way to insult another's faith. There seems to be in inner need among some secularist to insult people who believe in God. In the US, these same people have taken an ancient symbol of Christianity

and warped its shape into a proposition for neo-Darwinian evolution. I believe these people have every right to publish their own views, but why do they have desecrate someone else’s religion in the same breath?

Can you imagine if the same publication had published insulting caricatures of Blacks, Jews, Homosexuals, etc. The Western press would not be talking about freedom of the press. Instead the topic would have been racism, anti-Semitism, etc. We need to be respectful of others beliefs even when we disagree. In Romans 12 - the Bible says,


“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”

Provoking Muslims with caricatures of Mohammad is wrong. The publications should all apologize and Western society should strongly denounce those involved in its publication.
