Death to Catholics?

Belfast Telegraph, "THE son of a woman on board the Stena Line ferry on Saturday last night described his mother's fear during the unrest.

Jim McGreevey said his mother had been terrified by the sectarian behaviour of some of her fellow passengers.

He said she had endured a terrifying journey as football supporters chanted intimidating and sectarian songs and refused to tame their behaviour when approached by Stena Line staff.

"The supporters, they weren't even singing football songs, it was about killing Catholics, and named Catholics that have been shot dead," said Mr McGreevey.

"Then one of the Stena Line staff came down and asked them to be quiet, this seemed to up the ante and they just got out of control."

Within Ulster's Protestant community, there is a small and rabid anti-Irish Catholic group. This group has the incredible ability within Ulster to brow beat any Ulster Protestant politician with any shade of decency as a sell out. With Sinn Fein/IRA as their major rival and competitor, the Protestant leadership could always hide behind the greater abuse and violence perpetuated by the IRA. This allowed Unionists to avoid dealing with their own flirtation with loyalist terrorism.

Now with the coming disarmament and disbandment of the IRA, suddenly it is Sinn Fein who is sharpening their political attack on the Ian Paisley's DUP. The DUP finds it difficult to wholeheartily condemn the terroristic firebombing of Catholic houses. One of these attacks just happened in the town of Ahoghill not very far from where we use to live. The DUP representive for the area took several weeks before he asked people to cooperate with the investigation of the bombing.

I rejected the violence of the IRA many years ago as incompatible with teachings of the Bible and Christianity. When I see this sort of behavior from the DUP it is difficult to distinguish their attitude towards violence from Sinn Fein. Even though the DUP speaks of the need for "law and order", it doesn't extend to the houses of Catholics. It is an affront to true Christians to be associated with hate filled people who disgrace the name of "Protestant." The Bible speaks of true Christians who warn the world if the coming judgment of the Lord with a clear voice. How can any message be heard unless we fulfill the first two commandments of God in loving our neighbor?
